It wrote something wrong — now what?

Back in lesson one I told you ChatGPT sometimes states wrong things in the same calm, certain voice it uses for everything else, and that we'd come back to it. This is that lesson. Somebody sends you a number, a date, a "the law says," and it sounds so sure of itself that you almost don't check. That confidence is the whole problem — it's not lying to you on purpose, it's just built to always answer, even when the honest answer is "I don't actually know."
